Each plant grows in its own garden. You open a garden by standing on its unlock pad with enough coins, then upgrade it from its sign. Upgrades add pots first, then speed.

An upgrade costs the garden’s base price times the level’s cost factor. The base price is the garden’s unlock cost, or 80 coins for gardens that came free.
